US Sanctions Iranian Foundation Offering Reward for Salman Rushdie Murder

The statement said that since the leader of the Iranian revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, issued a death fatwa for Rushdie in February 1989, the foundation in question has offered millions of dollars to those who carry out this action.

In the statement, which claimed that the foundation increased the prize for those who attacked the author, the fatwa of death given by Khomeini and financially supported by the “15 Khordad Foundation” and other Iranian organizations was written by many people associated with Rushdie’s book. “The Satanic Verses,” including the authors, translators, and editors, reported to have resulted in death and injury.

Salman Rushdie was attacked with a knife by a 24-year-old man named Hadi Matar, born in California, while he was on the podium to give a lecture at the Chautauqua Institute near Buffalo on August 12.

Rushdie, who received more than 10 stab wounds, was airlifted to hospital and underwent surgery.

Rushdie’s manager, Andrew Wylie, said in a statement that the writer’s life was in danger, but his liver and arm were badly damaged from stab wounds, and he could also lose an eye.

Matar, who was captured just after the attack, denied the charges of “attempted homicide” and “assault” that he could face up to 25 years in prison in two courts, the first on August 14 and the second yesterday.
