UK military sexual harassment scandal
Britain has been rocked by a sexual harassment scandal in the Submarine Service, one of the Royal Navy’s five warfighting branches. Sophie Brook, one of the first female soldiers to join the Royal Navy, spoke about her experiences after joining the army in 2011, revealing the harassment scandal in the army.
In those years, Brook, who joined the army at the age of 18, was really very happy that his dreams came true. He turned down an offer to study economics at the London School of Economics. He first spent three years in the Royal Navy and then joined the Submarine service. He was sure that he was embarking on an exciting career that would fulfill all his expectations…

‘I HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO VIOLENCE FREQUENTLY’
Rather, Brook faced hell. She explained that she was abused both physically and psychologically. Speaking to the British Daily Mail, Brook said he was frequently subjected to violence, beaten and even sexually harassed by his male colleagues.
Brook claimed that a soldier he called C and said he was a superior officer showed him his genitals and kissed him forcefully. The scariest thing for Brook was the list he found. She claimed that male soldiers in the navy made a list to rape their female colleagues in the event of a catastrophic incident at sea. “I was sixth on the list,” Brook said.
‘We tried to break our own limbs’
Brook explained that he began to self-harm and commit suicide after these terrible events that he lived in a submarine with no possibility of escape. Brook described the fear she and other female colleagues faced: “We were so afraid to patrol that there were people trying to break limbs. Just not to work and not be treated like that.” she said she.
Brook, now 30, was one of the first women to join the fleet, making history as the first female combat officer and even slated to become the first female submarine captain. However, the former lieutenant is still receiving treatment, much less being a captain, because of his experiences… he says that even today he cannot erase the traces of his experiences…
ROYAL NAVY LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION
After the British Daily Mail brought up the horrific accusations of Brook
The head of the Royal Navy has announced that he has ordered an investigation into allegations of intimidation and sexual harassment against women on board submarines. Admiral Sir Ben Key described the allegations as “disgusting”, adding that “sexual harassment has no place and will not be tolerated in the Royal Navy”. He also said that the criminals will be caught as soon as possible and will be punished.
