“NSU files” labeled “confidential” allegedly released in Germany

Allegedly released “NSU files” labeled “confidential” in Germany

The report, shared with the public by the “FragDenStaat freedom of information portal” and the program “ZDF Magazine Royale” broadcast by the second German television channel ZDF, is available on the Internet at the page “nsuakten.gratis”. The report, which consists of 173 pages with annexes, is entitled “Final report on the examination of the archives in 2012 at the Organization for the Protection of the Constitution (LfV) of the State of Hessen” and is dated November 20, 2014 .

“We believe that the public has a right to know exactly what is written in documents that must have remained secret for over a century,” the website said. He noted that the report was rewritten to protect the sources that gave them information, so “a new document was created without digital and analog fingerprints.”

On the page it was stated that the document created is the same as the content of the original document, and information about some people was hidden for legal reasons. The report produced by the LfV, which examined whether there was a connection to the NSU in files and documents related to the extreme right, provoked public debate. For the report, called “NSU files”, a 120-year confidentiality decision was made on the grounds of protecting the management of the work of security institutions, then this period was reduced to 30 years.

THE NSU STORY

The presence and role of members of the NSU terrorist organization, which killed 10 people, 8 of them Turkish, in 2000-2007, carried out at least two bomb attacks and carried out 15 bank robberies, came to the fore. light on November 4, 2011 as a result of coincidence.

The fact that the neo-Nazi terrorist organization could not be detected by German security units for many years, and NSU members were revealed to have had relationships with some intelligence informants in the past, caused a great deal of controversy in Germany.

The destruction of some documents on far-right groups and informers used in the Organization for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany’s national intelligence service, a few days after November 4, 2011, also raised serious suspicions. NSU members Uwe Böhnhard and Uwe Mundlos were found dead in the trailer where they were hiding after a bank robbery on November 4, 2011 and were claimed to have committed suicide.

JURISDICTION

The decision in the case of the terrorist organization NSU, which began in 2013 at the Higher Regional Court in Munich, was announced on July 11, 2018 and the main accused, Beate Zschaepe, was sentenced to life imprisonment, and 4 defendants who aided and abetted the organization were sentenced to 2.5 to 10 years in prison.

Investigation commissions were established in the Federal Assembly and in many state assemblies to clarify the terrorist organization NSU and its shadowy connections, but the existing doubts were not cleared up by the investigations carried out here. (AA)
