We chose a reality TV star in 2016. Now he delivers drama

letters to the editor

April 6, 2023

About the editor: The trial of former President Trump in New York is just the beginning of over-the-top court scenes befitting a banana republic.

The nightmare will last an unrelenting time. More corrections in other jurisdictions. Smooth legal movements prior to trial. Jury selection was stalled by the unprecedented difficulty of finding truly unbiased jurors.

Finally circus-like trials and maybe even new trials.

All this underlines the fears shared by countless millions of Americans in 2016:

T

The election of a reality show impresario with no government experience predicted the devolution of our country into a banana republic.

Dev Mindell, Santa Monica

..

About the publisher: Now that Trump has been indicted and executed, New Yorkers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that crime will drop soon and the streets will be safe again. Or not.

It’s like Trump is guilty until proven innocent. What happened to suspected innocent people until proven guilty?

Patrick Kelly, Los Angeles

..

About the editor: The impeachment of Trump in New York and the inaction in Atlanta are bad news for Trump’s political opponents.

The Georgia issue is clear. Everyone has heard the record of Trump trying to get election officials to “find” enough votes to overturn the 2020 result.

The New York case is questionable and plays into Trump’s narrative. If he wins, it’s a win. If he loses, he can appeal and keep his name in the news for a year.

People knew what Trump was when they voted for him. The outcome of the procedure does not change that.

Lew Livingston, Orange..

About the editor: Watching a former president submit to a lawsuit reminds me that prevention is worth more than cure.

Trump has done so much and so much damage. I didn’t know if I would survive his presidency (many didn’t) and our democracy would have been irretrievably undermined by him.

I’m Jung Kwuon, Porter Ranch

..

About the editor: Maybe Trump and Manhattan Dist. thoughtful Alvin Bragg has to switch last name.

Jean Tanner, Marina del Rey
