A lagoon in the desert? Disney, save it for an amusement park

letters to the editor

April 3, 2023

About the editor: I’m angry at Disney’s “ambitious” planned Coachella Valley community with the “quirky and whimsical” Burbank-based entertainment giant.

In an era of global climate change, this project, with its “giant oasis” of water parks and pools, is a slap in the face to all of us trying to do our part in California’s water conservation efforts.

Granted, this announcement comes at a time of a great winter with plenty of water, but we all know that this is most likely a short-term event.

The 1,930-unit master plan community is a giant in the Coachella Valley. It’s all about making money for Disney.

I think open natural areas in the desert and everywhere else are a thing of the past.

About the editor: In the Coachella Valley, residents have been asked to reduce water use by 15%.

We made it. Our lots are sand and rock. We are careful when showering, bathing, washing dishes and doing laundry. It is not easy; it is thoughtful and careful.

Now Disney wants to build a community half a mile from my house with a 24 acre lagoon. No fountain, no pond, no lagoon.

So what should I think about when I take a quick shower?
