Djokovic’s new record

Novak Djokovic guarantees to finish the season on top

Novak Djokovic, who won his first match with his successful performance at the ATP Finals, managed to be at the top of the world rankings in 2023.

Serbian tennis player Djokovic and Danish eighth seed Holger Rune faced each other in the Green Group Singles match held at the Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy.

Djokovic achieved his first victory in his group by winning the match 2-1 with scores of 7-6, 6-7 and 6-3. With this success, the experienced 36-year-old athlete broke for the eighth time the record of finishing first in the world rankings at the end of the year and at the same time extended his stay at the top to 440 weeks. Thus, he became the oldest male tennis player to remain at the top of the world rankings the longest.

Furthermore, in another group match, the Italian Jannik Sinner won by beating his Greek rival Stefanos Tsitsipas 2-0 with sets of 6-4 and 6-4. (AA)
