Tickets for fans waving Palestinian flags were cancelled.
Scottish representative Celtic Club have banned their supporters, members of the ‘Green Brigade’ group, which supports Palestine, from attending their home games.
According to the British press, an email sent to members of the supporters group stated that the club banned combination ticket holders from attending home games. The news emphasized that the decision was made after fans displayed Palestinian flags in the stands during the UEFA Champions League match against Atlético Madrid.
It was claimed that the club had been fined twice previously due to demonstrations by members of the ‘Green Brigade’ and feared further disciplinary sanctions would be imposed by UEFA.
THEY SUPPORTED PALESTINE WITH HEARTS AWAY
Despite criticism from the club management, Celtic fans continued to support Palestine in the away game against Hearts. Hundreds of Celtic fans, who sat in the stands to support their team at the Hearts match, unfurled the Palestinian flag.
In a statement on the issue, the fans group said: “Our conviction that football fans and ordinary citizens have the right to express their political opinions in the stands, as in other sectors of society, is unwavering. “We will not allow ourselves to be dictated by an elitist board that belittles the history and traditions of the Celtic Club,” he said.
