At the World Wrestling Championships, Kazakh athlete Rizabek Aitmukhan gave his country its first-ever world championship in men’s freestyle.

Aitmukhan and Azerbaijani Osman Nurmagomedov faced each other in the organization’s men’s 92kg freestyle final held in Belgrade, capital of Serbia. Aitmukhan made history in his country with the gold medal he won by beating his opponent 5-2.

Our goal is to achieve greater success from now on. In the final I faced a very strong opponent, but I defeated my Azerbaijani rival with good tactics. “May this championship be a gift for Kazakhstan,” he said.

While the athlete’s success was welcomed in his country, the President of Kazakhstan, Kasım Cömert Tokayev, also posted a message and congratulated Aitmukhan. In his message, the President of Kazakhstan said: “This is a historic success for Kazakhstan. “I believe that this championship will make a great contribution to the popularization of the sport among the Kazakh people and the young generation,” he said.
