US Open final announced

Sabalenka and Gauff in the final of the US Open

Two young talents reached the women’s singles final of the US Open, the last Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season. Aryna Sabalenka, 25, and Coco Gauff, 19, defeated their rivals in the semifinals played on matchday 11 of the tournament held in New York.

Sabalenka became the first person to reach the final by defeating world number 17 Madison Keys 2-1. The Belarusian racket won the next two sets 7-6 after losing the first 6-0.

Gauff, on the other hand, defeated sixth-seeded Karolina Muchova 2-0 at 6-3, 6-4 sets, and secured promotion to the final.

The American racket thus became the youngest American tennis player to do so after Serena Williams, who reached the semifinals of the tournament in 2017.

The 25-year-old Belarusian tennis player thus qualified for the second Grand Slam final of her career after the 2023 Australian Open, where she was proclaimed champion.

Sabalenka and Gauff will meet in the final on Sunday, September 10. (AA)
