Alcaraz and Sabalenka advance to the fourth round of the US Open
The third round matches were played in the morning session of the sixth day of the US Open, the last Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season, held in New York, United States.
In the men’s singles championship, the Spanish Alcaraz defeated the British Daniel Evans (26 seeds) 3-1 (6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
The Italian Matteo Arnaldi, 61st in the standings, took one of the surprises of the day by beating the British Cameron Norrie (16) 3-0 (6-3, 6-4, 6-3) and became the Alcaraz’s rival in the 4th round.
British Jack Draper defeated American Michael Mmoh 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in sets 3-1 and reached the fourth round.
SABALENKA IS NOT FORCED
This year’s Australian Open champion in women’s singles, Sabalenka (2) of Belarus, continued her path by beating French Clara Burel, world number 62, 2-0 6-1 in sets.
The Russian Daria Kasatkina (13) beat the Belgian Greet Minnen 2-0 (6-3, 6-4) and faced Sabalenka in the fourth round.
American Madison Keys (17) defeated Russian Liudmila Samsonova 2-1 (5-7, 6-2, 6-2) and advanced. (AA)
