Carlos Alcaraz reaches the third round of the US Open
In the last Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season, the US Open, the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, the first seed, reached the third round.
Defending US Open champion Alcaraz faced South African Lloyd Harris at the tournament held in New York City.
Defeating his opponent 3-0 with partials of 6-3, 6-1 and 7-6, the Spanish tennis player was compared in the third round with the British Daniel Evans.
Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, the third seed, eliminated Australian Christopher O’Connell from the tournament 6-2, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.
The eighth seed, Andrey Rublev, beat Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
PEGULA AND JABEUR IN THE THIRD ROUND
In the women’s singles, American Jessica Pegula (3rd seed) won the second round match against Romanian Patricia Maria Tig 2-0 with sets 6-3, 6-1.
Last year’s finalist, Ons Jabeur (5), defeated the Czech Linda Noskova 2-1 with 7-6, 4-6 and 6-3 sets. (AA)
