Investigation for sexual assault against Luis Rubiales
The Autonomous Presidents of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) demanded the resignation of the Federation’s president, Luis Rubiales, in a written statement issued yesterday. Spanish prosecutors announced that they have launched a preliminary investigation into whether Rubiales’ unwanted kiss with Hermoso could constitute sexual assault.
The spokesman for the Secretary General of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, responded yesterday at the daily press conference to the question: “How difficult is it not to kiss someone on the lips? It is not like this? There is still a critical problem of sexism in sport. “We hope that the Spanish authorities and the Spanish Government will address this issue in a way that respects the rights of all female athletes.”
Dujarric also said: “From what we’ve seen here, I don’t see any indication that anything is consensual.”
HE SAID “THEY HAVE MUTUAL CONSENT”
President Rubiales, last week, inappropriately treated soccer player Jenni Hermoso in the World Cup final, and declared that he would not resign from his position, stating that Rubiales’ move was mutually agreed after criticism.
81 soccer players, including Hermoso, emphasized that if Rubiales did not resign from his position they would not participate in the national team and decided to boycott.
After FIFA suspended Rubialese from his position for 90 days during the investigation against him, the regional presidents of the Royal Spanish Football Federation issued a written statement.
The statement on the official website of the RFEF included the following statements:
“After the completion of the Commission of Presidents of Regional and Local Federations of the RFEF, the following decisions are communicated unanimously to the world of football and the community.
As a result of recent events and unacceptable behavior that have seriously damaged the image of Spanish football, the presidents demand that Luis Rubiales immediately resign from the RFEF presidency. “(DHA)
