Rubiales kissed newly crowned world champion Jennifer Hermoso on the lips. The kiss caused an uproar. Demands for resignation became loud. But Rubiales wanted to keep his post and spoke of a “society attempt” on him.

The ousted head of the association said the kiss was consensual. The player strongly disagrees.
