On Sunday, the Egeten sports ground in Widnau almost burst at the seams. The cup cracker battle with the industry leader in Eastern Switzerland caused quite a stir. More than 6,000 people watched the game between Widnau and St. Gallen.
For Kuno Joham, president of Widnau football club, the football festival was a complete success. When asked about Game of the Year, Yoham verbally replied, “That would be an understatement. It was probably the game in the club’s history.” There is a lot of pride in his voice. “It was a sensational day. We had a new record of visitors and we were able to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere,” Yoham says. The festival passed peacefully without any major incidents.
The President admired the naked out of the corner of his eye
Much is offered to 6350 viewers. For example, Reintal’s leadership in the outsiders of the first half. Timo Faleschini’s goal in the 19th minute is a dream goal. Widnauer delivers a remarkable salvo right from eleven yards. A highlight for the president, who even got to watch a live goal out of the corner of his eye: “Unfortunately, I didn’t notice much of the game because I was always on the move. But thank God I saw the goal.”
And the scorer himself is incredibly happy with the Sunday shot. “I never thought that I would score such a goal. I am a defender, not a striker,” says Faleschini and laughs. His mobile phone was inundated with messages and congratulations after the game. But he does not want to put himself in the foreground. It was amazing team work.
The team was ready for the third half
This achievement was then duly celebrated by the team. According to FCW President Kuno Yochama, he went home “early”: “I left at 11 p.m., but I definitely wasn’t the last.” Faleschini’s team stayed longer in the tent. He and his teammates left at 1:30 am. Despite heavy legs, one or another tank was lying on the table. Fortunately, most people today have a day off on Monday. “We knew it was going to be a great party,” the dream scorer says, adding, “You only experience this once and you have to enjoy it.” They would have celebrated anyway, even if the defeat had been much more obvious.
Ordering not completed yet
Yoham cannot yet say whether the football festival was a financial success. The cash register has not yet been made. But there won’t be any downside. “But the main thing is that we had a wonderful cup day,” says the President. This was only possible thanks to some 250 helpers.
