Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, new FIBA ​​president

The FIBA ​​Congress elected Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani as the new FIBA ​​President and appointed new Central Board members.

The 22nd FIBA ​​Congress was held in Manila ahead of the FIBA ​​World Cup 2023 to be hosted by the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan, and elected the new Central Committee President and members for the 2023- 2027.

Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, the new FIBA ​​President to replace Khamene Niang, was unanimously elected by all those attending the congress. Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, FIBA ​​Vice President and FIBA ​​Asia President since 2002, in the previous term beginning in 2019, he previously served as President of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Vice President of the Committee Qatar Olympic.

After his election, Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani said:

“Assuming this responsibility is a great honor for me, for my country Qatar and for our Asian continent. Now I represent the interests of the 212 National Federations in the five regions.
