Interesting decision from FIDE! Trans people are banned from chess
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has temporarily banned male-to-female transgender people from competing in women’s tournaments. FIDE has been the subject of intense criticism.
In a statement about the new agreement, Lausanne, Switzerland-based FIDE on August 14 said: “In case of changing the gender from male to female, the player has no right to participate in official FIDE events. for women until a new decision is made. by FIDE. This decision must be based on further analysis and be taken by the FIDE Council as soon as possible, but not more than 2 (two) years. There are no restrictions for a person who has changed their sex to play in the open division (a tournament in which any player who is a member participates).”
THE REGULATION OF OLD WINNING TITLES CALLS ATTENTION
Another notable decision made by FIDE regarding transgender people was regarding their winning titles. The following statements were used in the statement on this topic;
– If a player has any of the female titles but their gender has been changed to male, the female titles will be removed.
– If a player has changed their gender from male to female, all previous titles remain valid.
In recent years, there has been mutual criticism of sports federations banning transgender people from participating in women’s tournaments and some transgender people gaining physical advantages in women’s tournaments. With this decision, FIDE has been criticized for gender discrimination in chess, which requires great skill and intellectual ability. (DHA)
