Klopp announces record transfer: ‘I don’t like it but…’

Jurgen Klopp confirms record transfer from Liverpool to Moisés Caicedo

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club has reached an agreement with Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo.

The Merseyside club have beaten fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea to sign the 21-year-old midfielder. Sources say the deal that will bring Caicedo to Anfield is worth £111m ($141m), a British record for a player.

Sources have told ESPN that Chelsea are considering building up their £90m offer for the player to rival Liverpool’s dramatic offer.

KLOPP: CAICEDO AGREES WITH THE CLUB

In a press conference on Friday, Klopp said: “[Moises Caicedo’nun] I can confirm that he has reached an agreement with the club, whatever it is,” he said.

“Of course we want the player, not just the deal. We don’t have an infinite resource,” Klopp said, using the following statements:

“We didn’t expect some things to happen over the summer, but when they did, we took a chance. Let’s see what happens and we’ll continue from there.”

“I DO NOT LIKE THIS”

Klopp had previously criticized teams for spending a lot of money on transfers, but said the transfer market has changed:

“Everything has changed. Do I like it? No. Did I realize I was wrong? Yes. I’m not blaming anyone, but it’s just the market. Ultimately, as a club we have to make sure we get the best possible player with our resources. We’re not in a fantasy world and we can’t point to a player and have them come. Sometimes one door closes and another opens.”
