Completed stage 12 of the Tour de France
The Spanish Ion Izagirre Insausti of the Cofidis team won first place with a time of 3 hours 51 minutes 42 seconds in the 169-kilometre 12th stage of the Tour de France, the 110th most prestigious road cycling race, between the towns of Roanne and Belleville-en-Beaujolais.
On the stage, Frenchman Mathieu Burgaudeau of the TotalEnergies team came second and American Matteo Jorgenson of Movistar came third.
In the general classification, Dane Jonas Vingegaard of Jumbo-Visma retained the yellow jersey by holding the lead with a total time of 50 hours 30 minutes 23 seconds. Slovenian UAE Emirates driver Tadej Pogacar was second, 17 seconds off the lead.
The event will continue tomorrow with the 138-kilometre stage between the town of Chatillon-sur-Chalaronne and the Grand Colombier mountain.
The tour will end in Paris, the capital of France, on Sunday, July 23, with the completion of 21 stages. (AA)
