32 defense against Barcelona
Club Barcelona of Spain has signed defender Íñigo Martínez, 32, whose contract with Athletic Bilbao has expired.
Club Barcelona, in a written statement, announced that it signed a contract with Martínez valid until June 30, 2025 and set the footballer’s unilateral starting price at 400 million euros.
After the departure of important players such as Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba in defense, Barcelona chose Martínez to cover the gap in this area. Martínez arrived at Athletic Bilbao in January 2018 from Real Sociedad.
Due to financial problems, Barcelona prefer players whose contracts with the club have expired in Martínez, such as İlkay Gündoğan.
On the other hand, the Spanish press wrote that “Barcelona was disappointed by the transfer of Arda Güler, who lost to Real Madrid, and turned its attention to 18-year-old Brazilian striker Víctor Roque.”
Roque, who plays for Brazil’s Club Atlético Paranaense, is reportedly close to a deal with Barcelona. (AA)
