Aleksander Ceferin: There were problems in Istanbul

Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium, which hosted the UEFA Champions League final, sparked complaints from Manchester City fans. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has admitted that fans were having a hard time at the Champions League final in Istanbul.

Manchester City fans reported problems with transportation to the Atatürk Stadium on the outskirts of the city for the final match played against Inter Milan on June 10, with insufficient toilets and limited access to water. Immediately afterwards, it was learned that the Football Supporters Europe organization was preparing to present a report to UEFA collecting the complaints of the fans who came to Istanbul.

Speaking at the European Football Fans Congress in Manchester, Ceferin had this to say about the Champions League Final in Istanbul:

“I came here to apologize. Good intentions are often not enough, we know and regret it. We are aware that not everything is perfect in Istanbul and the problems some fans face. But let’s keep working together to understand what we can improve. I think there are problems, especially with transport links, accommodation for disabled fans, access to water and toilets for everyone. I can assure the fans that next year’s Champions League final at Wembley and Euro 2024 in Germany will be a unique experience.”
