Gran Canaria withdraws from the Euroleague
The Spanish Basketball Team of Gran Canaria has announced that it will not compete in the Euroleague, to which it has been invited to participate next season for financial reasons.
Gran Canaria, which won the 7Days European Cup last season by beating Türk Telekom in the final, was entitled to participate in the EuroLeague next season due to this success. After the meeting, the board of directors of Gran Canaria, a club from the Canary Islands region, announced that they unanimously decided not to participate in the Euroleague next season and play in the European Cup for financial reasons.
Gran Canaria struggled with a budget of 8.8 million euros last season.
Gran Canaria, which is about 3 hours by plane from mainland Spain, had covered more than 121,000 kilometers in total for the Spanish League and European Cup matches last season.
The Spanish media assured that after Gran Canaria’s decision, the Euroleague could receive an offer from Valencia Basket for next season. (AA)
