Irony of fate in Istanbul! 18 years later, champion again…

The 1-0 scoreline, which has determined the winner of the UEFA Champions League for the past three seasons, has not changed in Istanbul either.

Istanbul, which hosted the 21st century final with Milan-Liverpool, whose regulation time ended 3-3 in 2005, this time said goodbye to football fans with a one-goal championship. In the final battle between Manchester City and Inter, no player managed to score except Rodri.

While Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in last season’s final, Chelsea won the cup in the 2020-2021 season by beating Manchester City with the same score.

RODRI MATCH SOCCER

Rodri, author of the goal that gave Manchester City the first Champions League in its history, was named “man of the match”.

The 26-year-old Spanish footballer helped his team take the field 1-0 with a goal scored in the 68th minute.

REPEAT OF DE BRUYNE’S DISMISSAL

Manchester City’s Belgian star Kevin de Bruyne had to leave the match after picking up an injury in this final following the Champions League final two years ago.

The 31-year-old footballer was injured in the 60th minute of the 2021 final, where they lost 1-0 to Chelsea, and was replaced by Gabriel Jesus. De Bruyne left the game in the 36th minute in this match and was replaced by Phil Foden.

CARSON AFTER 18 YEARS…

Manchester City substitute goalkeeper Scott Carson left Istanbul, where he arrived for the Champions League final after 18 years, with the trophy back.

The 37-year-old English goalkeeper was also in the squad as Liverpool’s substitute goalkeeper in the Milan-Liverpool final played in the 2004-2005 season and reached the championship with his team.

Goalkeeper Scot Carson, 37, had won the championship with Liverpool in Istanbul in the final 18 years ago.

MANCHESTER CITY, CHAMPION 6TH ENGLISH TEAM

Manchester City became the sixth English team to take the Champions League trophy home with them after their victory in Istanbul.

Previously, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have accomplished this feat. (AA)
