Ilkay Gundogan, who won the championship with Manchester City, made history

For the first time in history, a footballer of Turkish origin won the UEFA Champions League trophy.

In the UEFA Champions League final hosted by the Atatürk Olympic Stadium for the second time, footballer of Turkish origin İlkay Gündoğan, who plays for Manchester City, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, an international football player, faced each other for the championship trophy.

In the final, where Manchester City beat Inter 1-0 to win the cup, captain İlkay Gündoğan also made history as the first player of Turkish origin to lift the trophy.

İlkay Gündoğan played in the final with Borussia Dortmund in the 2012-2013 season, but left the field without a trophy after Bayern Munich won 2-1.

Arda Turan, Nuri Şahin, Hamit Altıntop and Yıldıray Baştürk had not been able to experience the joy of the trophy before because their teams lost the final match in the “Giants League”.
