Rybakina and Kalinina in the final
In the women’s singles category of the Rome Open Tennis Tournament, Kazakh racket Elena Rybakina and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina defeated their opponents in the semifinals and advanced to the final.
The semifinals were played in the women’s singles category of the tournament, which was held for the 80th time this year on clay courts at the Foro Italico Complex in the capital city of Rome.
In the first leg of the semifinals, Russian Veronika Kudermetova, seeded 11th, faced Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, seeded 30th. Kalinina defeated Kudermetova 2-1 in sets of 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 to advance to the final in Rome. Thus, Kalinina achieved one of the most significant results of her career.
In the other leg of the semifinals, seventh-seeded Kazakh racket Elena Rybakina and 20th-seeded Latvian Jelena Ostapenko shared their trump cards on Center Court. In the match, which had to be stopped for a while due to the rain, Rybakina beat Ostapenko 2-0 with sets of 6-2 and 6-4 and left her mark in the final.
