NBA regular season MVP Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid, who plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the American Basketball League (NBA), was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the regular season.
According to the statement on the NBA website, the Cameroonian-born American citizen center received the award by passing Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks) as a result of a vote of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters from different countries.
Embiid, who had the honor of being named an All-Star 6 times in his career, received the regular season MVP award for the first time. Jokic won the award in 2021 and 2022, and Antetokounmpo in 2019 and 2020.

Hakeem Olajuwon
Embiid, 29, became the second African-born NBA player to be named regular season MVP, after Hakeem Olajuwon (1994). Embiid is also on record as the first 76ers player to receive the award since Allen Iverson (2001).
Embiid, who starred in the 76ers’ 54 wins and 28 losses, going to the play-offs from 3rd place in the Eastern Conference, achieved the scoring reign this year after 2022 with an average of 33.1. The star center also averaged 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1 steal. (AA)
