Russian boycott of Ukrainian athletes

The Ukrainian Judo Federation has announced that it will not participate in this month’s World Championships, in an attempt to boycott the participation of Russian athletes.

In the statement issued by the federation, it is stated that Russian judokas who participated in the Russia-Ukraine war will take part in the World Championships and said: “Many athletes who participated in the attack launched against Ukraine on February 24, 2022 in En name of the russian army will fight in this championship. Ukraine’s fight against Russia to defend its region continues at full speed. As a Federation, we have decided not to participate in the World Championship”.

In the statement, it was stated that more than 250 Ukrainian athletes, including national judokas, lost their lives during the attacks.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) announced last week that Russian and Belarusian judokas will be able to participate in the championship, which will take place in Doha, the capital of Qatar, between May 7 and 14, under the title of “Athletes neutrals”. . (AA)
