Naples missed the opportunity! championship postponed

Napoli could not beat Salernitana, championship postponed

In week 32 of the Italian Football First League (Serie A), Napoli were mathematically unable to secure the championship as their host Salernitana drew 1–1.

Two teams from the same region met in the match at the Estadio Napoli Diego Armando Maradona. The locals could not find the goal they were looking for despite the fact that they charged into the Salernitana goal and the first half ended in a goalless draw.

In the 62nd minute of the second half, Mathias Olivera headed the ball into the net and put Napoli ahead 1-0. Salernitana scored the balancing goal with Boulaye Dia in the 84th minute of the game.

Meanwhile, Salernitana’s coach, Paulo Sousa, saw a red card at minute 90+1 for a strong objection to the referee. Although Napoli was loaded for the goal in the last moments, it did not succeed. Both teams split the points after the match ended 1-1.

With this result, the leader Napoli made 79 points, while Lazio, his closest follower, lost to Inter and did not take the opportunity to proclaim their championship in the week without points. Tens of thousands of Neapolitan fans gathered in and around the Diego Armando Maradona stadium were also disappointed at not being able to reach the championship.

Salernitana scored 34 points and remained in 14th place.

Meanwhile, the Italian press wrote that the championship celebrations were postponed for a week as a result of Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Salernitana. (AA)
