Line refereeing in tennis becomes history!
Starting in 2025, the electronic system will replace the linesmen who work in tournaments organized by the Professional Tennis Association (ATP).
The technology, which has been implemented in many organizations including the Australian Open and US Open Grand Slam tournaments, will be used in all ATP Tour matches from 2025.
According to the statement on the ATP website, with the electronic line system that will be used both in the main draw and in the qualifiers, the decisions will be optimal in terms of precision and consistency.
Although the system has become widespread on tennis courts after the new coronavirus epidemic, the organizers of Grand Slam tournaments can make decisions independently of the ATP.
Players can appeal the referees’ decisions at Wimbledon through the Hawkeye system. At the French Open (Roland Garros), the chair umpire enters the court and examines the trajectory of the ball in the event of an objection. (AA)
