Radical decision of the UEFA of Russia

Making a press release after the meeting of the Executive Board of the Russian Football Federation (RFS), the President of the Russian Football Federation, Aleksander Dyukov, stated that they are considering leaving the European Football Federations (UEFA ) with the clubs next week.

Dyukov affirmed that they will evaluate the options to leave UEFA by videoconference with the clubs next week and indicated that the decision could be made on Tuesday, December 27.

On February 28, UEFA and the International Football Federation (FIFA) suspended the participation of Russian clubs and Russian National Teams in international competitions due to the military operation in Ukraine. The Russian National Team was banned from the World Cup qualifiers in Qatar and could not participate in the draw for the qualifiers for Euro 2024.

Russian Football Federation (RFS) General Secretary Maksim Mitrofanov said the Russian national football team refused to participate in the friendly tournament of the Central Asian Football Federation (CAFA).

In his statement to journalists, Mitrofanov stated that the Russian National Team will not participate in the Central Asian Football Federation Championship: “We sent an official letter to CAFA, we thanked our friends. We have some organizational problems. Therefore, we had to refuse. There are questions about the huge load of players. We wanted to participate. But it didn’t happen,” he said.

Emphasizing that Russia can participate in the tournament at the referee level, Mitrofanov added that if the organizers ask Russia for help in refereeing, the tournament will also be an important experience for Russian referees and they will evaluate this proposal.

In March, the press spokesman for the Football Federation of Tajikistan (FFT), Faridun Saliev, told the official Russian news agency RIA Novosti that the Russian National Football Team will participate in the championship to be organized by the Tajikistan Football Federation. Central Asia (CAFA). The championship will be held from June 9 to 21.

Banned from international sports competitions by FIFA and UEFA in December last year, Russia began negotiations to join the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
