The CEO of the Belgian Football Federation was fired for increasing his salary without permission
Peter Bossaert, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Belgian Football Association (KBVB), was fired for raising his salary without management approval.
The federation board met to discuss the accusation against Bossaert. After the meeting, the dismissal of Bossaert, who had been in office since 2018, was announced.
In the Belgian press, it was reported that the president of the federation, Paul Van den Bulck, was uncomfortable with the accusations, so he agreed with a law firm for a financial audit, and as a result of the audit, it was concluded that Bossaert’s contract violated ethical standards and internal regulations.
Belgian football is going through a turbulent period after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. After Belgium, one of the favourites, was eliminated from the tournament in the group stage, Domenico Tedesco was replaced by coach Roberto MartÃnez, and some names were changed in the football leadership.
