Good next opponent for FC Basel in the conference league

FC Basel will face French club Nice with Swiss Jordan Lotomba in the fourth Conference League final. This results in a draw in Nyon.

The first match will take place on Thursday, April 13, and the second leg will take place a week later. Basel, which reached the round of 16 in the penalty shoot-out against Slovan Bratislava, will play first at home.

With Nice, FKB had a difficult draw, if not the most difficult one. The financially strong southern French based on the Côte d’Azur started the season poorly with Lucien Favre as manager. In the meantime, they were even in the relegation zone in the league, but under the leadership of interim coach Didier Digar, after the reshuffle in January, they stepped up the heat.

Vogel: “Heavy piece”

Jordan Lotomba’s team once again reached the international places in the league. The last defeat dates back to January 7, when they disgraced themselves in the cup against third class Le Puy. Since then, the league has had six wins and four draws in ten games. In the 1/8 finals of the Conference League, the club scored two victories against Sheriff Tiraspol.

“It will be tough again,” Basel’s interim coach Heiko Vogel commented. Nice are an attractive opponent, in good shape and full of strong players. “We don’t go into this fight as favorites, but we go into every game to win. We need two ideal days for this.”

Pelmard Home Club

For Andy Pelmard, it will be a meeting with a club from his hometown. Dan Ndoy also played for Nice before moving to FCB. The most famous French players are goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, striker Nicolas Pepe on loan from Arsenal, experienced Brazilian defender Dante, son of Lilian Thuram Kefren Thuram and Aaron Ramsey, who inherited the Welsh captaincy from Gareth Bale. Lotomba is one of the regulars on the right flank.

Other quarter-finals: Lech Poznan (Poland) – Fiorentina, Gent (Belgium) – West Ham United and Anderlecht – Alkmaar. In a possible semi-final, Basel will face Fiorentina or Lech Poznań. The final of the European competition, which started two years ago, will take place on June 7 in Prague.
