BBC gives its verdict on Gary Lineker
The legendary footballer Gary Lineker, who on his Twitter account criticized the new British government bill on the refugee issue and compared it to Nazi Germany in the 1930s, was suspended from the “Match of the Day” program that was coming presenting on the BBC for years. Following the reactions, the BBC management announced that the mythical name would return to the program as a result of the meeting with Lineker.
The BBC said Lineker breached neutrality rules by comparing British Home Secretary Suella Braverman’s rhetoric to language used in 1930s Nazi Germany and banned the caption from appearing on the programme. Later, Ian Wright and Alan Shearer, partners of the legendary name on the show, also announced to Lineker that they will not be appearing on the show due to the decision that was made against them.
The fire lit by footballing legends Wright and Shearer grew rapidly and criticism of the BBC from the English footballing public mounted like an avalanche. While many presenters and reporters announced that they would not go on the air unless Lineker’s decision was withdrawn, the BBC was accused of caving in to government pressure. In its 59-year broadcast history, for the first time, the “Match of the Day” show, which only has a match recap without a host and commentator, will continue its broadcasts next week with Gary Lineker and his assistants.
BBC SOCIAL MEDIA EDITION
BBC management announced that it will make arrangements for how presenters can use social media, especially on topics other than news and current events.
BBC director general Tim Davie acknowledged that the process with Lineker was a “difficult period” caused by “grey areas” in the company’s social media rules. ”
“Impartiality is important to the BBC. It is also important to the public. The BBC Charter includes a commitment to impartiality and a commitment to freedom of expression. Tim Davie said that the new rules of social networks will be prepared in the company of experts.
“Gary is a valuable part of the BBC and I know how important the BBC is to Gary,” Davie said. I look forward to featuring our post next week.” saying.
Gary Lineker said: “I am happy that we have found a way forward. I support this new agreement and look forward to its launch.” he used his statements.
LINEKER: IF YOU HAVE TO ESCAPE FROM THE WAR…
The British legend, who shared on his social media account, said: “As difficult as the last few days have been, this cannot be compared to having to flee persecution or war from home to seek refuge in a country far. It is touching to see the empathy of so many of you for his plight. We continue to be a country made up primarily of tolerant, hospitable and generous people.” he said.
