Match-fixing embargo on China
Ten Chinese snooker players, who were investigated for match-fixing last January by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), have been banned from competing in this year’s events, including the 2023 World Snooker Championship.
In a written statement from WPBSA, the trial of 10 Chinese billiards players will begin on April 24.
In the statement, it was indicated that these athletes will not be able to participate in the remaining World Snooker Tour events in the 2022-2023 season, including the 2023 World Snooker Championship.
WPBSA banned 10 Chinese snooker players in January over match-fixing investigations. Players who have been penalized for match-fixing investigation; Liang Wenbo, Li Hang, Lu Ning, Yan Bingtao, Zhao Xintong, Zhang Jiankang, Chen Zifan, Chang Bingyu, Zhao Jianbo, and Bai Langning were announced. (AA)
