LA agrees to pay compensation to Kobe Bryant’s wife
NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna were killed in a helicopter crash in the Los Angeles area along with 7 other people. Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, said the first team involved in the crash had photographed the bodies as “souvenirs” and filed a lawsuit.
Los Angeles city attorneys said the lawsuit, agreeing to pay $29 million in damages, was “fair and reasonable.” Vanessa Bryant’s attorneys said in a statement Tuesday: “Today marks the day her courageous fight to hold those who committed this extraordinary act accountable succeeded. She fought for her husband, her daughter and everyone in the community who faced a lack of similar respect towards his deceased family.” He used his statements.
Speaking about the incident, Los Angeles Attorney General Mira Hashmall said that all cases related to the accident have been settled in the county. She said the $29 million settlement also includes $16 million awarded to Vanessa Bryant in a privacy violation lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles by a federal jury in August 2022.
The state of California passed a law that prohibits first responders from taking pictures of people who have died at the scene of an accident or crime since Bryant’s accident.
The Sikorsky S-76B plane, which killed Bryant and his daughter in the crash, crashed into a hillside outside the city of Calabasas. Conditions were cloudy when the flight took off and local police had grounded their helicopters due to bad weather.
