Espen win: St. Gallen sent Servette home 3-0

St. Gallen beats Servette 3-0 and thus, at least temporarily, is the first pursuer of YB. Almost 15,000 spectators came to Kibunpark on Saturday night. The game can be read in the ticker.

The decisive scenes of Saturday night’s game took place between the 33rd and 39th minutes. Servette was awarded a penalty for the first time after Leonidas Stergiou intercepted the ball with his hand from close range. However, Derek Kutesa failed to take advantage of the golden opportunity to equalize. His shot at St. Gallen’s goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zygi failed.

Shortly thereafter, Espen also received a penalty after a violent boarding by Servette goalkeeper Jeremy Frick. Jeremy Gilmeno decided the duel of namesakes in his favor.

So, unexpectedly for St. Gallen, it became 2:0 instead of 1:1. Just before half-time, the Genevans almost managed to win back a goal from the field: fortunately, when Timothy Konya shot, a teammate was next to the St. Gallen goalkeeper, which was counted as offside.

Since it was clearly not a match in Geneva, it was only fitting that Boris Cespedes was sent off with a second yellow card in the 64th minute.

As a result, St. Gallen had little trouble defending their lead or even extending it thanks to Willem Goebbels’ first Superliga goal. FCSG went goalless for the first time after 15 games.

With the win, St. Gallen finished second in the table.
