Super League record: more fans in stadiums than ever

Ten Super League clubs have sold 1,381,645 tickets for their home matches in the previous 105 games, the Swiss Football League (SFL) announced on Friday. This corresponds to an average of 13,159 fans per game during the first 21 rounds. “historical” value.

“Never in the history of Swiss football have major league clubs reported such high numbers,” writes the SFL. The previous record for this in the championship was 12,281 fans in the 2012/13 season. According to the SFL, after 36 rounds, there could be more than 13,000 fans on average – the previous record for the 2011/12 season was 12,253 spectators.

Young Boys Bern can expect the biggest increase (3,390 extra fans, club record 28,211 fans, four sold-out home games). Sion had 1,987 more fans, and St. Gallen had 1,876 more spectators in two sold-out home games. Servette added 1806 additional fans, while GC and Lucerne increased by 1723 and 1406 respectively.

There are more fans in Winterthur than in Lausanne

Winterthur also contributed to the success story: “So far, in its first season since returning to the top flight after 37 years, Zurich has hosted an average of 8,155 fans at its home stadium, the Schützenwiese, with six out of eleven games sold out.” Compared to relegated Lausanne, there are 3,089 fans per home game.

In the European comparison, the Super League is in 8th place in terms of the number of fans – the “big five” with Germany, England, Spain, Italy and France, as well as the Netherlands and Scotland top the table.
