Sergio Ramos says goodbye to the national team
Spanish soccer player Sergio Ramos said in a written statement that he made a phone call with Luis de la Fuente, who was replaced by Luis Enrique, who was sacked after Spain were knocked out in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar, and he found out that he would not be on the squad.
“The time has come, it’s time to say goodbye to the national team, the red shirt that we love and excite so much,” Ramos wrote. “I received a call this morning from the current coach of the National Team. He said that he would not count me in his team unless it depends on how I continue my sports career and my performance. It is the end of an era, although I hope it will take longer.”
Ramos was also excluded from the 2022 World Cup squad by Luis Enrique.
One of the most important defenders in Spanish soccer in recent times, Ramos, 36, played 177 times for the national team between 2004-2021 and scored 23 goals. Ramos won 2 European Championships (2008, 2012) and 1 World Cup (2010) with the Spanish National Team. (AA)
