Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg in the quarterfinals
By defeating their rivals in the third round of the German Cup, Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg advanced to the quarterfinals.
Eintracht Frankfurt, one of the teams in the First German Football League (Bundesliga), welcomed Darmstadt 98, one of the teams in the second league, at Deutsche Bank Park. In the game where Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead in the 6th minute with a goal from Randal Kolo Muani, Darmstadt 98 responded with Mathias Honsak in the 29th and 31st minutes to make it 2-1. The home team stabilized the game with Rafael Borre’s goal in the 44th minute and the first half ended with a 2-2 draw. In the controversial second half, Eintracht Frankfurt scored two more goals with Daichi Kamada in the 62nd minute and Muani in the 90th minute and won the game 4–2.
In the other game played on the third day of the German Cup, Freiburg defeated Sandhausen 2-0 at home. Freiburg’s goals were Philipp Lienhart and the 90+5 in the 87th minute. It came from Nils Petersen.
With these results, Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg became the teams that advanced to the quarterfinals of the German Cup.
