Chelsea finalizes the transfer of Malo Gusto

Right-back Malo Gusto, 19, from Lyon, one of the French Ligue 1 teams, will wear the Chelsea shirt starting next season. The long testimonial negotiation between Lyon and Chelsea resulted in the demands of the French team being met.

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas said in a recent statement that the transfer would not go through if Chelsea did not make the offer they wanted. The transfer came to fruition when the London outfit agreed to pay a transfer fee of £26.3m for the 19-year-old French footballer and play for Lyon on loan until the end of the season.

Malo Gusto, on loan from Chelsea as an alternative to Reece James, made 54 appearances for the Lyon A team in three years and despite his young age managed to become one of the team’s regular players.

Elsewhere, Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei, who was transferred from Inter for £12m earlier in the season, has been loaned to Reading.

Malo Gusto is Chelsea’s seventh signing in this period, including the loan of Joao Félix from Atlético Madrid. Continuing to work for the midfield transfer, Chelsea attempted a transfer for Enzo Fernández, Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Everton’s Amadou Onana, but were unsuccessful.
