The British legend rebelled: they forgot to be human

Tottenham fans cheer for Sol Campbell: They seem to have forgotten how to be human

Sol Campbell, one of the unforgettable defenders of England and world football, has called for an end to the hatred towards Tottenham fans. However, at Tottenham, who faced Preston in the FA Cup, the fans increased their joy and showed that 22 years of hatred against Campbell will not end easily.

Sol Campbell, who was transferred to Arsenal under the Bosman rule after his contract with Tottenham expired in 2001, had a signing that shocked the public at the time. Announcing that he would stay at Tottenham before transferring to Arsenal, Tottenham fans branded Campbell a “Juda” when he went back on his word. Speaking to The Guardian, Campbell said he was still personally mistreated and he couldn’t bring her children to games because of the insults they might witness.

Campbell’s call, in which he asked Tottenham fans to stop this harassment, did not get the expected response. Spurs fans gave many moving chants, including “Let’s party when Campbell dies.” “I didn’t hear the cheering,” Spurs manager Cristian Stellini said after the game. Now I can understand what they were saying. But I hope it never happens again.” he used his statements.

“PEOPLE FORGET TO BE HUMAN”

Reacting immediately to what happened, Campbell said: “It’s like people have forgotten how to be human. Wishing and hoping someone dies? And are you going to have a party? What world do we live in? I know football has its own tribalism, but if no one thinks it’s unacceptable, we’re in a very bad place.” he said.

TRANSFER THAT ARSENAL KEEPS A SECRET

Sol Campbell’s free transfer to Arsenal is regarded as one of the most controversial transfers in football, and the defender, then 26, was receiving offers from across Europe when he signed for Highbury. Arsenal had managed to keep it a secret until his transfer, when Campbell took the stage at the signing ceremony. While everyone was waiting for Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright to be announced, Sol Campbell’s appearance at the press conference came as a shock.

“WHAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT IF I HAD MY CHILDREN”

Speaking about his transfer to Arsenal, Campbell said: “I was a kid. I didn’t have a family. If I had children it would be another story. I dont know. Maybe if I were 30 or 35 years old I would think differently. But I was 26 years old. I am no longer me. Let alone 22 years old, who stays the same every year or every five years? I am not making this decision. I want a clean slate. Look into your hearts, look into your souls and turn me into a clean slate. Look at me as a human being.” He demanded an end to the bullying with his words.

CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH ARSENAL

While Campbell won two Premier League titles, two Community Shields and three FA Cup titles with Arsenal, he was unable to lift the trophy despite scoring a goal in the Champions League final against Barcelona. Jamaican-born English footballer who turned professional with Tottenham in 1992, signed for Arsenal in 2001. Moving to Portsmouth after a five-year affair, Campbell transferred to Notts County in 2009. Campbell, 48 , who returned to Arsenal in 2010 at the end of his career, transferred to Newcastle 6 months later, ending his career at the end of the season.

ARSEN WENGER REGRET

Arsenal’s manager at the time, Arsene Wenger, also included the star player in the squad called “The Avengers”. However, the experienced coach admitted that he regretted the transfer due to the harassment he suffered from Campbell.
