Natalya Antyukh stripped of her London 2012 gold medal

Russian athlete Natalya Antyukh was disqualified from the women’s 400m hurdles at the 2012 London Olympics for doping.

According to the statement from the Athletic Integrity Unit (AIU), the sanctions against Antyukh, who was suspended for 4 years in 2021 and whose classification was eliminated between June 30, 2013 and December 31, 2015, have been extended.

As a result of the reanalysis of Antyukh’s samples found in the former Moscow Doping Control Laboratory, it was decided to remove her titles between July 15, 2012 and June 29, 2013. Thus, the 41-year-old athlete was stripped of the gold medal she won in the women’s 400m hurdles final at the 2012 London Olympics.

The gold medal will go to Lashinda Demus of the USA, who finished in second place. Antyukh, who won the bronze medal in the women’s 400m at the 2004 Athens Olympics, became European champion in 2010 and third in the world in 2011 in the 400m hurdles. (AA)
