Stephanie Frappart will go down in World Cup history

At the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place in Qatar, French referee Stephanie Frappart will serve in the Group E match between Costa Rica and Germany, to be played tomorrow.

Stephanie Frappart will go down in history as the first female referee to blow the whistle in world soccer’s number one organization at national team level since 1930.

Frappart became the first female referee to serve in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers last year. The French referee oversaw the match in which the Netherlands defeated Latvia 2-0 on March 27, 2021.

The 38-year-old French referee, who is the first female referee to feature in the UEFA Champions League, also blew the whistle at the 2019 UEFA Super Cup match in Istanbul. (AA)
