Lightning decision after earthquake of resignation in Juventus

In a written statement from Exor Holding, owned by the Agnelli family, it was reported that after Juventus president Andrea Agnelli and the board of directors resigned from their duties yesterday, accountant Gianluca Ferrero was appointed as the club’s president.

In the statement, it was noted that although Juventus shareholders were invited to the general meeting to be held on January 18, 2023, Exor Holding will determine the list of candidates for the new board of directors within the period determined by law.

Meanwhile, Juventus shares fell today on the Italian Stock Market after the resignation of Juventus president Andrea Agnelli and his board of directors.

THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF JUVENTUS LEAVES

The Italian press drew attention to the black and white club’s achievements during the 12 years Andrea Agnelli was president, writing that “the most successful president in the club’s history” resigned.

Since Andrea Agnelli took over in 2010, Juventus have won Serie A for 9 consecutive years, starting with the 2011-2012 season, an elusive feat in league history. During Agnelli’s presidency, the black and white club won 5 Italian Cups and 5 Italian Super Cups, as well as league championships.

Although Juventus played in the UEFA Champions League final, one of Agnelli’s most desired trophies, in the 2014-2015 and 2016-2017 seasons he was unable to win the trophy.

THE PROCESS LEADING TO THE WAIVER

According to the Italian media, the process that led to the resignation of Andrea Agnelli and the board of directors is related to the “Prisma” investigation, launched in May 2021 by the Turin Attorney General’s Office, which examined the club’s financial accounts. for the period 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. As part of the investigation, searches were also carried out at the club’s offices in Turin, Milan and Rome in November 2021 and March 2022.

Some managers and footballers Paulo Dybala, Alex Sandro and Federico Bernardeschi, who were at the black and white club during the aforementioned period, were also summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office to testify in the framework of the investigation.

He specified that the prosecutors conducting the investigation detected financial irregularities such as unfair income, incomplete or false statements in the club’s financial accounts for the 2019-2021 period, especially in transfers of soccer players and salaries.

In addition to the fact that the General Prosecutor’s Office completed its investigation last October, it was reflected in the press that the deficiencies identified by the Italian Market Supervisory Board (CONSOB) regarding this process led the club’s management to resign, and Agnelli and his management decided to resign to protect the interests of the club.

THERE WAS A WIDE RESPONSE IN THE ITALIAN PRESS

While the events at Juventus were covered in the Italian press with the headline “earthquake at Juventus”, the daily Corriere dello Sport broke the news with the headlines “The president had to resign after 12 years and 9 championships league” and “They resigned”. .

While La Gazzetta dello Sport made the headline “Revolution at Juve”, Corriere della Sera used the headlines “An earthquake at Juve, the entire board of directors is gone”, and the newspaper La Stampa used the headlines “Juventus is turning a new page.” .
