Shaktar Donetsk’s request ‘Iran should be eliminated from the World Cup’
Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk football club has called for Iran to be excluded from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, allegedly supporting Russia’s military intervention.
Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin, who made a statement on the club’s social media account, said: “We call on FIFA and the entire international community to immediately ban Iran’s participation in the World Cup. due to their direct participation in the attacks against the Ukrainians”. Ukraine should be in the World Cup. “Iran has no place there,” he said.
“While Iran will have fun watching its national team play in the World Cup, Ukrainians will be killed by Iranian drones and Iranian missiles,” Palkin said. Around 250 of these drones attacked the cities of Ukraine.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Qatar, will start with the Qatar-Ecuador match on November 20. Qatar will be the first Arab country in the Middle East to host the World Cup.
