In a video promoting the new “God Bless the USA Bible,” former President Trump held up the book, with an American flag rippling across the cover, and declared, “Make America pray again.”
Trump has often championed unusual merchandise T-shirts, with his mugshot flying off virtual shelves and amassing $7 million in just over a day, according to his campaign. The new Bible, which sells for $59.99, combines Scripture with the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as the lyrics of country singer Lee’s popular “God Bless the USA” song Greenwood, which often plays at Trump rallies and events.
In the promotional video, Trump said the Bible uses the King James version of the text. Its release comes during Holy Week, a fact Trump noted in a post on Truth Social: “Happy Holy Week! Let’s pray America again. As we enter Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless the American Bible.”
How much is Trump’s mugshot worth? More than $7 million, the campaign says
The book’s website states that the product is “not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign” and that no proceeds from the Bible will go to Trump’s campaign for president. It also notes that the book is “the only Bible endorsed by President Trump.”
It wasn’t long before Trump’s promotion of the book sparked sarcastic and scathing posts on social media.
So I said to them, ‘Let everyone who has gold take it off.’ They gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf, which can be yours for the low, low price of five easy installments. $19.99,” Christianity Today Editor-in-Chief Russell Moore tweeted in response to Trump’s video.
Trump is facing nearly half a billion dollars in bail in connection with a civil fraud case. On Monday, a New York judge agreed to delay collection of the more than $450 million he owes if he posts $175 million bail within 10 days.
Last month, Trump promoted $399 gold Never Surrender High-Tops sneakers. He has sold other books before, both before and since his presidency.
In the video posted to Truth Social, Trump said, “All Americans need a Bible in their home and I have a lot of them.” He added that it is his “favorite book,” although he came across famously vague in interviews
approximately with
some of its contents. He was criticized, or at least caused some eye-rolling, when, during a speech at Liberty University, he referred to II Corinthians as “Two Corinthians” instead of the regular “Second Corinthians.”
In one of the memorable images from his administration, Trump held up a Bible for a photo op in 2020 outside St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, where many presidents have attended services. The photo shoot took place shortly after officers cleared racial justice protesters from the park in front of the church.
