A family often compared to the fictional Roy family from HBO’s Succession lives out one of the show’s storylines.

Johnny Buss, the brother of Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss, is president of the United States, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Committee and an official website for his campaign.

“I envision an America that leads with compassion, innovation and, above all, integrity. An America where racial equality is not just an ideal, but a lived reality for every citizen. Where our policies reflect our commitment to the planet, and where education opens doors to a future that holds promise,” says Johnny Buss on the website Buss2024.com.

He is registered as an independent candidate.

At Succession, Logan Roy’s eldest son, Connor, runs for president.

According to campaign documents, Johnny Buss declared his candidacy on January 30. According to government documents, he spent $118,026.66, including $1,500 for hairstyling costs and $36,560 on a film production company.

A text message to Buss was not immediately returned. He currently has no role with the Lakers. The team declined to comment on the candidacy.

Buss, the eldest son of late Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss previously served as president of the Los Angeles Lazers indoor football franchise and as president of the Los Angeles Sparks until 2006.

In 2017, Johnny and his brother Jim were involved in a brief legal battle over the structure of the team’s board of directors, during which Jeanie Buss consolidated her position as the Lakers’ controlling owner.

According to his website, Johnny Buss is running on a platform for a more just and equitable America, strengthening our future through education and providing climate leadership.

The email address listed on his filing paperwork did not appear to be functioning, and several emails were returned to sender on Thursday afternoon.
