Seven Republican candidates seeking a place in the presidential race will face off in a debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

Wednesday evening.

The Republican National Committee announced that seven candidates have met the requirements to be on the debate stage:

Doug Burgum, Governor of North Dakota Chris Christie, Former Governor of New Jersey Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida Nikki Haley, Former Ambassador to the UN Mike Pence, Former Vice President Vivek Ramaswamy, Businessman Tim Scott, Senator from South CarolinaFlorida Gov. North Dakota Doug Burgum

The debate will air on Fox Business Network and Univision, as well as on the streaming service Rumble. It starts at 6pm PST.

To qualify for the debate, candidates had to reach at least 3% in multiple polls and have at least 50,000 unique campaign donors. They must also pledge to participate only in RNC-sanctioned debates, share certain data with the RNC and support the party’s eventual nominee.

Former President

Donald

Trump, who leads the Republican field

in polls

will again sit out the debate by a wide margin, opting instead for an event with striking autoworkers in Michigan. Instead of participating in the first GOP debate last month, Trump released a one-on-one recorded interview with former FOX News host Tucker Carlson.

Wednesday evening’s forum will provide the candidates with the space to distinguish themselves from Trump and each other. During the first GOP debate last month, Ramaswamy stole the spotlight as he fielded attacks from most of the other candidates on stage on issues like foreign policy and climate change.

DeSantis, who has averaged second place in the polls since announcing his presidential bid earlier this year, has continued to decline in popularity. A poll released earlier this month showed Trump’s support among California’s presumptive Republican primary voters had soared, with DeSantis and Haley falling to a distant second and third places.

The Democrats have started a debate on counterprogramming together with the president

Joe

Biden is touring campaign fundraisers in San Francisco this week. The Democratic National Committee reportedly plans to fly a plane over the Reagan Library and drive a billboard around the site.
