Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said Friday she will run for re-election to another term in Congress as Democrats work to regain the majority in 2024.
Pelosi, 83, made the announcement to union allies in the San Francisco district that she has represented for more than 35 years.
Now more than ever, our city needs us to promote San Francisco values and promote our recovery, Pelosi said in a tweet. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still here, with freedom and justice for EVERYONE. Therefore, I am running for re-election and respectfully ask for your vote.
First elected to Congress in 1987, the Democratic leader made history by becoming the first female speaker in 2007 and regained the gavel in 2019.
Pelosi led the party through substantial legislative achievements, including passage of the Affordable Care Act, as well as turbulent times with two former president impeachments

Trump.
The announcement ends any talk of retirement for the long-serving leader, who, with the honorary title of Speaker Emeritus, is an influential leader, a pivotal figure in the party and continues to play an important role.
