Jen Psaki joins MSNBC’s primetime lineup with a second weekly show

FILE – White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki speaks at a press conference at the White House, Feb. 23, 2022, in Washington. Psaki, whose last day of work is Friday, has answered questions from journalists nearly every weekday of Biden’s nearly 500 days in office. That makes her a top White House communicator and arguably the most public face of the administration, second only to President and Vice President Kamala Harris. Her departure could complicate the way Biden’s message comes across at a crucial time for him, at least in the short term. (AP Photo/Patrick Semansky, File)

MSNBC viewers will soon see more from former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

Beginning Sept. 25, Psaki will perform Mondays at 8 p.m. Eastern in addition to her Sunday program, “Inside with Jen Psaki,” which premiered on progressive cable news in March. Chris Hayes, a long-time host in the timeslot, continues Tuesday through Friday.

A highly recognizable face after two years of giving daily press conferences for the Biden administration, Psaki was a ratings success in her first full-time TV role.

While cable news channels tend to maintain a consistent lineup during primetime on weekdays, MSNBC has seen audiences look for a personality that appears weekly.

To keep its biggest name Rachel Maddow when her contract expired last year, MSNBC agreed to allow her a once-a-week work schedule. Maddow only appears on Mondays at 9 p.m., while Alex Wagner’s program airs every hour for the rest of the week. The grid

MSNBC has enjoyed strong ratings as viewers flock to the channel on days when former President Trump faces a court hearing for

In July, MSNBC averaged 1.1 million prime-time viewers, more than double the number for CNN and about 400,000 more than Fox News, the leader in cable news ratings.

Separately, Fox News announced that conservative host Mark Levin will expand to two weekend nights. “Life, Liberty and Levin” will air from September 16 on Saturdays at 8 p.m., in addition to Sundays at 8 p.m.
