Rutte discusses cabinet fall with king Related articles

Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte has arrived at Huis ten Bosch, the residential palace of King Willem-Alexander, to speak to the king about the fall of his cabinet. Rutte submitted the resignation of his fourth cabinet in writing on Friday evening.

Upon arrival at the palace, Rutte did not say much to the assembled press. He entered quickly. The king returned from abroad to meet with Rutte, whose fourth cabinet collapsed last night after hours of consultations between the four governing parties. The coalition failed to reach agreement on the package of migration measures. Especially Rutte’s VVD and the smaller governing party ChristenUnie were diametrically opposed to each other.

The outgoing prime minister had already submitted his resignation to the king twice: the first and third Rutte cabinets were also not finished. Just like yesterday evening at the Binnenhof, where the cabinet was in crisis consultations at the time, a few dozen day-trippers were also present today at the Huis ten Bosch building to catch a glimpse of Rutte.
